Hi-
I'm new here so just want to say "hi" first.....i'm also new to windows
xp and i hope you won't hold that against me.🙂 i just got my new
system about 3 months ago and i'm still acclimating myself to
everything including xp....a lot to learn!
Anyway, i also wanted to ask you all a question i have about something
i've been trying to set-up on my new system. I want to set CHKDSK and
DEFRAG to run automatically each month on it.... to achieve that i used
a suggestion from Lincoln Spector in his PCWorld article, "let windows
handle pc maintenance for you...." from may 25, 2005. But,
unfortunately CHKDSK won't run from this set-up, although DEFRAG
will(!) With CHKDSK i keep getting the message, "could not start"
under "status" in the CHKDSK entry in task scheduler. When i try to
run CHKDSK outside of task scheduler, right after it's failed attempt,
i get another error message of sorts, the exact wording i cannot
provide, but basically it says that CHKDSK cannot start because some of
windows resources are being used and all resources are needed to run
this program. If i re-boot at this point, then CHKDSK will run. But
this whole business is odd....cause when i run CHKDSK i'm not using
anything except what runs on start-up of the computer, plus i spoke
with lincoln spector about this and he says his technique works fine
for him and his colleagues at pcworld. So, what do you all think the
problem could be? thanks.
