I bought the q8300 to upgrade from an older Q-2Duo. The board is ver 1.x and the bios is upgraded to f9. The old cpu still works, but the new one hangs during boot right after the acpi 9 message. I can get into the bios but it hangs constantly with my usb keyboard, (again not a problem with the old cpu).

The post recognizes a cpu and my 6gig of ddr2 memory counts off my drives etc. Just wont finish booting that last step before windows. I do have the latest chip set drivers as well.

Any idEAS?

It does not boot through with a ps/2 keyboard. The old processor is an e4400. I have reset the bios a number of times. Removed everything accept the vid card. no post codes, no error message simply stops after the message acpi 9

thanks for asking :)

The ram modules are :
OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2G8002GK
and
OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2G8004GK

Now with the E4400 I was able to use all 4 sticks giving me 6 gig of ram

For some reason the Q8300 will not start with more then 2 sticks. Either the 2x1gb or the 2x2gb but not with all four.

Unfortunately using modules that aren't exactly the same can lead to problems like that. As you found out, a faster processor can sometimes make a motherboard more picky with memory.
