Hi Norlann,
The two horizontal lines on your screen are normal for some flat face CRTs. They are what you read "Apeture Grills" that are placed in front of the electron beams to compensate for focus issues at the edges of the screen.

(And FWIW, no I wouldn't buy any monitor with that type CRT in it... it's very annoying to see black lines across everything)

The second effect you mentioned, that the display looks convex (i.e. curved in in the middle) is actually an optical illusion. You'd have the same thing with a LCD screen. It's because you are used to looking at a curved surface... after a few days with flat screens, the curved ones will look wrong to you.

But mostly you need to chill out... It's a monitor, it's new... hell if you don't like it, send it back! There's no reason to get all bent out of shape over it.

Call NEC's tech support line, they are very good. Tell them you just bought a product that is unsatisfactory and would like to exchange it for one with a different type CRT (without the lines)... I'm betting they are more than happy to help you out.

A LOT of monitors are like that, it's ok. Give it a few days, u won't know it's there. I've been using such monitors now for 7 years, and it don't bother me one bit (and I do graphics design on this thing!). Give it a few days.

OK! i see now..
for TEQ I Bought this monitor from NEWEGG.com i receive this today and i dont like the horizontal lines a bit.. i know is little hard to notice sometimes but is still a problem when im used to look at clean screens.. should i return this back to NEWEGG.com or Call NEC and tell the problem and get another Monitor?? i have to pay the difference right? and which one better than this can i get?

Flamethrower: I know but is anoying playing a game and see this line in the middle i really dont like it.. this is better than my other monitor But AGRR i dont like does lines!! Is SONY trinitron same as this?? if i return this which other monitor without this kind of problem and better than this or equal should i GET? Please.

Hi Norlann,
I'm not up on NEC's newest model numbers, at least not right off the top of my head. My suggestion was that you call them and see if there is an equivalent monitor without the idiotic Sony CRT in it. I know the earler FE series monitors did not have those god awful lines and the display quality was really really good.

Perhaps you can work up an exchange or, more likely, return the one you got to NewEgg and get a different model. In any case NEC is about the best CRT based monitor you're going to get, you just need to know the correct model number.

Now, at the risk of lecturing... You really should not buy monitors from "box drop" companies. As I explained in another post in this forum, there are adjustment variations in CRT based monitors that are clearly visible (focus, convergence and colour balance being the most critical). If you took 6 identical monitors and put them side by side in a store, you would likely see at least 3 variations in display quality. This is normal production variation. I always suggest that you really do need to inspect the actual monitor you will be buying before you take it home. (i.e. Don't resolve your purchase to the model number, resolve it to the actual serial number)

Anyhow... good luck to you! Hope you get this sorted.

I had an AG monitor for 5 years. Fortunately I only saw the line (15" monitors only have one wire) on some monotone backgrounds but I never did get "used to it". I just tolerated it.

Get a Shadow Mask monitor (no lines) if it bothers you that much.
