Reviewing our router log today shows
lots of different address locations
attempting to connect via port 6346.

We are NOT running any kind of P2P software,
and it seems that Gnutella uses default port number 6346.

This might imply that when we login to Valve/Steam
our IP address is shared with others for game playing,
and somehow that translates in port probes for 6346 - Gnutella ?

Anyway - the game has not been played for at least 12hrs,
and I would like to know how & why these "addresses"
are still trying to access my system ??

It was probably just a roll of the IP assignment dice.
The previous address "owner" was probably running P2P.
I went into our router - did a "disconnect",
and then "connect" - grabbing a different IP.
The probes have gone away - for now -

i had this once when i had a virus that my checker didnt pick up.......

id connect, within 2hours id start getting probes, but, if i disconnected
and reconnected, but didnt run irc or didnt join a certain room (im guessing
someone in the room had once got "inside" me) the probes finished. nasty
internet........

Last year I got a nasty virus, and had over 20,000 connection attempts in
TEN MINUTES !

I ended up unplugging my router, restarting in safe mode, and removing the
virus "by hand" as my free anti-virus couldn't do it for me.

Makes you wish you could introduce a virus writer to a brick wall,
high-speed and face-first.

But that way you can get away with " but honest officer, he just fell down"

Of course, he could "fall down" a couple dozen times .
