Problem about ram's slot

Hi guys, I have two 2gb ram and a 4gb ram (all are in same speed). How should i slot into a 6 ram slots motherboard? This is an old pc hence I won't purchase a new ram for this. Should I just use 4gb?

You can use them together if they are of the same Frequency and CAS Latency level. They should work together. But if not, check if your MOBO supports dual channel memory modules. If so, better use the 2x 4GB modules.

If it has six slots it is likely an X58 board and supports dual and triple channel memory configurations. Consult the motherboard manual for acceptable configurations.

Check if your RAM Slots are colored. If they are, the 2 sets of 2GB RAM should be put in slots with the same color.

If the slot arrangement is like 1(Black), 2( White), 3(Black), 4(White), 5(Black), 6(White)....... then

Put 1 2GB module in slot 1(Black) & the second one in slot 3(Black). This should be the most common arrangement for multi channeling.

But if there are no color indicators, better check the MOBO Manual.

Generally on an X58 slots 1-3 from CPU, I'd go 4GB in slot1 as it's the biggest, then if they boot check and make sure all 6GB is seen

I would suggest testing the 2 4GB modules first. Then pit the 4GB module on the slot # 2 if the configuaration I gave example of is true in this mobo.
