hey everyone. Im new here and I need some help. I dont usually ask for help but this has me stumped. I have a gateway sx2800 system. Im running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and here are the system specs:
Processor Q8200 Intel Quad 2.33 ghz.
4gb of ddr3 memory.
650 gb HD.
Video is integrated intel g43/g45 express chipset.
monitor is HP LP2465 widescreen lcd.
The system came with a vga port and an Hdmi port. I have the HP hooked up to the vga. when i plug my 42" HDTV into the hdmi port, both screens go blank and my computer reboots. I get picture on both until it reaches windows, then both screens go blank again. I rebooted using only the HP. I boot to windows and everything is fine after it tells me the system recovered from a serious error. I try to plug the hdmi in again. both screens are blank again. only this time i quickly removed the hdmi and the HP monitor comes back up without a reboot saying the windows 7 graphics driver stopped responding but has recovered. I then uninstalled the graphics all together and rebooted. I installed the vista drivers for the graphics and tried again. Same thing happens. Now when i uninstalled the graphics completly again from the device manager and shut down, i took the vga monitor out and plugged in the tv and booted up. It will boot to windows then, but only using a standard generic graphics driver. The video was of course horrid. I then installed the drivers for the graphics and rebooted without un plugging the hdmi and without plugging in the HP monitor. Again all i got was a blank screen with sound when booting into windows. This led me to believe it was probably a driver problem and not a compatibility issue. but heres the thing, i also have a 20" hdtv. So i ran some tests on that one. I plugged it into the pc with hdmi just as i did the 42" hdtv. It worked perfectly. It even let me run the HP monitor and 20" hdtv at the same time when i set to intel dual display. so i was like wth is going on? why isnt it letting the 42" work. All i want to do is stream movies from my pc to the 42". so i then unplugged the hdmi cable from the pc. hooked it back to 42" tv and for some odd reason the intel media accelerator options still allowed me to switch to digital television in the options. Then, it worked! I had media center running on my tv and playing a movie just fine. then i tried to figure out how to get the black bars off the screen and get a bigger picture. when i was clicking around in the options i accidently clicked the refresh rate from 60hz to 75hz. then boom it was gone again and ive tried everything and cant get it back. Is it possible i need to reinstall all the original software and go back to vista 64 bit? I didnt try to hook the tv up until i upgraded to windows 7 so im not sure if it could be a windows 7 issue or not. Any help at all would be apreciated and I thank you in advance.
