Problem getting over 60hz on my benq xl2430t

My r9 270 burned and now I am using as a temporary replacement a gigabyte gt1030 gpu.. I tried using a DVI cable and I couldnt get over 60hz and someone told me because the GT1030 has hdmi 2.0 I can plug an hdmi cable to my benq xl2430t which I believe has an hdmi 1.4 port and I should have 120 or 144hz, so now I tried it and it still dosent allow me go over 60hz.
Feedback would be appriciated

The XL2430T doesn't support more than 60 Hz over HDMI, you need to use DisplayPort or Dual-Link DVI.
