Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but I could really use some help. Im studying a game design course at the moment, and my housemate has ruined my gaming rig by spilling booze INSIDE the 20cm fan Antec thought would be a good idea to put at the top of a gaming case.
Anyways, I wiped off almost all of the soiling immediately but it hasnt booted. Ive noticed some sticky dust on the CPU cooling fan, and am now simply trying to find the cheapest fastest way to get her going again.
Initially I thought that the PSU was screwed so I replaced that with a new one, and still not so much as a peep when the power button is pressed.
Ive checked and rechecked every lead, every screw, every connection, dismantled entirely, reassembled and obsessed over it for weeks but I simply need help I think.
Im now at the stage of getting a multimeter to attempt to check whats working & not, but am unsure on how to do this also, apart from simple 2 wire cables.
By the way, my MOBO is a MSI P-35 Neo, with an LGA775 Chip (old I know) OC'd with a custom fan from 2.4 to 3.2ghz, only had 4GB of DDR2, had a geforce gt640 in it (which I think could be dead too) 2XIDE HDs,1 SATA HD and 1 SATA DVDRW.
So essentially what Im asking is can anyone tell me what parts are likely to be screwed completely, what would be salvageable? I just need to get an idea ASAP of how much this is likely to cost me mostly, and any tips on checking things with the meter would be more than welcome.
Apologies for the long letter but Im in a bit of a pickle. Also mods apologies if this is in the wrong place.
P.s. I went through the tomshardware wont POST wont boot checklist thing, but nothing at all seems to be working.
p.p.s. Not too ambitious on anyone being able to help me, considering the situation, but its worth a shot
Also if anyone can tell me how I might test the CPU fan somehow without plugging that in, perhaps using a 9v battery and 2 small wires or something, that would be a great help too. I dont want to run the risk of damaging it if its still working, so if someone has done it before Id love to know how exactly they managed it, thanks,.
