Downloaded WIN 10 64 bit via media creation tool to USB. PC is set up with only the new Samsung 860 EVO SSD connected and BIOS set to boot from USB.
I am doing a clean install. Got to the screen "where do you want to install windows and the drive 0 unallocated drive was shown and I selected next.
The hour glass appeared and there has been no change for 2 hours.
Don't know what is going on and if this takes that long. I previously did the same process on my laptop and did a clean install on a Samsung EVO 850 drive, selected overwrite everything and the process progressed and was completed.
I don't know why this process is hanging up and what to do - Help please!

Solution
The 0x8007045D error code is an I/O (input and output) error that is associated with the registry. It indicates that the Windows operating system has become overloaded with invalid system references in the registry. This may prevent you from executing reading and writing to and from devices successfully

Have you tried multiple USB slots? USB 2 maybe?

When you did this, had you clicked on the unallocated space and then clicked next? I doubt its that simple...

If you have another PC, I would put ssd into it and run Samsung Magician on it, do...
I have seen this before, I initialized the disk or formatted it on another machine then had success with the install. So, if you have a problem after you verify your usb flash drive is good, try that.

System specs? Especially age of SSD
This can also be due to corrupt Windows file on bootable USB Pendrive. So can you try to download and create bootable Pendrive again

The SSD is a brand new Samsung 860 EVO, 250GB. The system is dated - ASRock Z68 pro 3 with Core i3 Ivy Bridge running Bios P2.10. The system runs Win Pro 7 for years and is in excellent condition - clean with new power supply. The motherboard has more capability than some new ones on the market. I'll try it again - I'll download Win 10 again on a clean USB and format the SSD on my laptop and see what happens - maybe a defective SSD?
Thanks for the reply!

Well, I reformatted the new SSD, downloaded a new installation file on a new USB, formatted FAT 32, tried 2 different USB ports and get the same result - error code 0x8007045D.
Stumped! Could it be a bad SSD?
Any Ideas? Thanks!

Can you boot your PC into safe mode?
Do you have any other SSD or HDD? If yes, then try to install Windows on that and check your SSD health.

I replaced the CPU on this system prior to the attempted WIN 10 install. went from an i3 Sandy Bridge to an i3 Ivy bridge just for the increase in the Video to meets the standard of Win 10.
After the switch WIN 7 booted and ran fine. Is there any chance this is the reason I am having an issue with the WIN 10 install?

do you have latest bios on motherboard?

did win 10 work on motherboard before you swapped CPU?
I have the BIOS that matches the CPU- I flashed it when I switched the CPU. This was all done PRIOR to attempting the Win 10 install. After the change of the CPU, WIN 7 worked fine. The problem I am having is the installation of WIN 10 from the creation tool - every attempt has failed

If you have another PC, I would put ssd into it and run Samsung Magician on it, do benchmarks, check SMART score and see if you have latest firmware.

I wonder if it install faster without 2nd hdd in there, but that would remove ability for dual boot. you do know with 2nd drive in there, it won't create a boot partition on ssd and will instead use the one on hdd. So if hdd dies or you take it out, you won't be able to boot ssd.

I will try another USB slot. I have a new Samsung SSD. I installed Magician and updated firmware - SSD showed no errors and everything was in order. I cloned the OS (WIN 7 from the working system) to the new SSD. I removed the existing win 7 SSD so the only drive in the system was the new SSD with the cloned OS and that is how I attempted the install from the USB. I don't know what else to do. I had no problem when I did a clean install on my Dell Laptop - but this one is driving me crazy!

Finally succeeded. The problem was not interpreting the directions properly on my behalf. When it came to the point in the installation to choose where to install the OS - I simply selected the SSD listed. I should have selected "new drive" and allowed the installation USB to correctly partition the new drive and then select the correct partition to install the OS. I did this, and Windows loaded. Communications and clarity are extremely important. One cannot assume that every user is on the same level as the author of the instructions. I saw a video from the UK and this clearly illustrated how to complete the clean install on a new system.
Many thanks to all who replied to my delema!
