Hello, I've been trying to install windows 10 on a Samsung 970 Evo nvme and for some reason I can't do it. Whenever I try format and click next on the windows media I get the message "we couldn't install windows on the location you chose, please check your media".

I tried changing the options on sata to every thing available, raid etc and all of them give the same message.

I also saw that some people got it solved by disconnecting the other drives ok the pc, but I tried it and it didn't change anything.

I also tried using the windows media with 2 different USBs and it gave me the same result.

Anyone could help please? I would really appreciate it, I'm really lost on what to do.

Solution
I would ask the owner if it was ever on there. I would also test nvme works if you can.

it shouldn't be a driver thing. I looked in the manual just to confirm it can run that nvme, it will but not full speed.

it might be it can't run off nvme and they have to use it as storage instead?

support for nvme was rather spotty in the past.
is nvme only drive in pc? it helps if it is.

what motherboard?

sometimes helps if you remove ram sticks as well.

it won't use sata options, nvme don't use sata

I tried removing all the other drives and tried with it alone, but it gives the same result.

Haven't tried without the ram, didn't even know you could install windows without it, will give it a try.

The motherboard is a gigabyte gaming x99 7

Thanks for the help!

does it also show this error code in message - 0x80300024

did you highlight the unallocated space between the format stage and clicking next?
is the nvme showing as disk 0 in bios? it can cause problems if its disk 1

when did you make installer? i only ask as latest version of win 10 released yesterday, so iso would be updated to it.

I did highlight the unallocated space between the format stage and clicking next. I also tried removing the space several times, creating the partition, and formating everytime I tried the installation.

One installer was made 12 hours ago, and didn't work, and then I grabbed another one I got installed a few months ago, which gave me the same result and it's the one I'm using right now.

you shouldn't have any partitions on the drive, it should be all blank.

delete all the partitions and click next

oh i see, its got the old drive in

take it out when you install.

try updating BIOS?
Was windows ever on nvme? some older PC might not boot well off NVME

I've no idea if the pc was on nvme or not, but I think it wasn't (the pc isn't mine)
I tried before to disconnect them and had the same error, so I just reconnected them. I'll disconnect them again now and try again.

I will try contacting the manufacturer of the motherboard to see if it can run windows or not, thanks

I contacted them and they told me that the motherboard supports windows 10, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The owner told me that it's the first time he's trying to use nvme, so he hadn't tried it before.

Will keep trying. Thanks for the all the help.

Well, this is amazing. Just powered up the pc again and now it suddenly works. I've literally not done anything new, just tried today again expecting to see the error and it didn't happen, so I have 0 idea what could have been causing it. Thanks everyone for the help!
