Acer Aspire v5-471p

Hello there, I need some help, I have this laptop, and was installed in legacy mode, and I want to reinstall it again in UEFI, but when I change the boot to UEFI mode, it doesn't recognize the DVD with the OS, nor the previous installed os. What can I do?

Solution
Why do you want to switch to UEFI?

the reason it does not boot of the DVD is that the DVD does not support booting in UEFI mode and therefore also will not do a UEFI installation.

Systems that support UEFI require that boot partition must reside on a GPT disk. Other hard disks can be either MBR or GPT.

You will need an installation media that is UEFI ready and reconfigure you drive to GPT during a fresh install.

You cannot convert a MBR boot drive to GPT without a lot of technical understanding and a bunch of cloning steps.

I'm not certain what is goal. And is this a 64-bit Windows 7 or 8 machine? (I see this model of Acer has some "Win8" versions.)

Are you trying to access an external drive that's larger than 2Tb? That's the most popular reason for UEFI-GBR bios setups, but truly that's a GBR and 64-bit OS issue, not "UEFI".

Since laptop drives max out at 2Tb, there isn't a need to GBR that drive-capacity, so I'm uncertain what the original problems or goals might be.

(If the BIOS doesn't recognize the DVD, then something else is going on - there are different tables for Drive Lists and perhaps the Default Selection is NO drive instead of the listed DVD drive. You may have to manually insert those values from various picklists. There can be dozens of those to sift thru.)
