Hello, evening.

I've been running my Samsung SyncMaster TA350 23" monitor on VGA for a good while now on a NVIDIA GTX 660 Ti video card, through a VGA->DVI-I adapter since my video card does not take VGA. Anyway, so I recently wanted to move to HDMI since both my video card and monitor support it, so I was like why not? Went to the local store, bought an HDMI cable, got home and connected it but got a black screen saying "no signal".

I've tried all the following to fix this problem but nothing worked.
- Try to connect the monitor on my brother's PC through the same HDMI cable, didn't work.
- Use a different monitor, same cable, however.
- Update video card driver, nope nothing.

I ruled out that the video card and monitors are faulty, only thing I haven't yet is try a different cable which I'm going to be trying very soon and I'll post results.

I've also tried couple more things, but oh well, no progress.

Also, my motherboard is Gigabyte GA-P75-D3.

Solution
have you tried using a dvi to hdmi adapting cable?

honestly dvi is going to give you the same quality as hdmi.

hdmi to hdmi should work though.

make sure you are on the right input. also you may need to turn the monitor on in a certain order from the pc. ie the monitor first then pc or vice versa for the handshake to occur. or just turn the monitor off then back on. sometimes you get some weird errors with some setups.

I have to work with what I have, so I can't really get a dvi->hdmi, and it's not really about the quality, I simply cannot find an adapter in any near local store for DVI-D->VGA, if I did, I'd give up hdmi right away.

you most likely will not find dvi-d to vga since dvi-d is digital and vga is analog.

you will find either dvi-i (supports both digital or analog) or dvi-a (analog) to vga.

dvi-d however will convert to hdmi. (since both are digital) and will give a better picture and performance.

honestly if you want to keep using vga output stick with the dvi-i to vga that you currently use ad you wont find any vga output which is better.

if you want an improvement you will need to use an hdmi output which will be either a dvi-d to hdmi or plain hdmi cable.

i never did get a response on if you tried changing the inputs or going through the menu to look for anything on using the hdmi input. also never got a response on if you tried restarting the computer or turning off and on the monitor.

keep in mind that VGA is not listed as being hot swappable. this means that you cannot just unplug and plug it back in and have it always work while the machine is on. dvi and hdmi however do list the capability. it is best if you shut your pc off, plug in the hdmi and then start your pc. remember to swap inputs on the tv too. the gpu should detect that you are using hdmi and output to it.

I did find a DVl-d to VGA on eBay, however does not ship to Egypt.I don't really want to try the DVI-d to HDMI because I have a plain HDMI cable that isn't working. I checked the input and the monitor powering sequence but didn't help.Tomorrow, I'm getting a new HDMI cable first thing in the morning, I'll post new results then.

Thanks for the help so far.
