Hello,

I updated an x800 pro last night to a HD3870. The frame rates dramatically increased. But, it is doing something strange I cannot put my finger on. When you pan- there is a weird blur that almost hurts the eyes. Is there a term for the blurry effect that is happening when panning with this card? If I could find out what type of problem it is then I could research better. If you look left or right it's as if everything humms (strange- i know) and becomes very blurry hurting the eyes. If you look down at an object and look back and forth quickly- there is a trail of the object's image after it. I DO NOT DO DRUGS- lol. It is basically very uncomfortable to look around in motion because of the blur. Ironically, the FPS are really fast while this occurs. It occurs at both high and low FPS. I have tried everywhere to hear a similiar effect to no avail. This is at the same settings at the x800. That card did not do this. I have tried everything. I mean everything. Flipqueue, settings on and off, game settings on and off. Has anyone ever experienced this. It's a great card. But, I'm going to have to go back to my older card. It is so much sharper and consistent when you are panning. aarrggghh

THANKS FOR ANY input.

Hello,
It's happening in Oblivion. I have installed the latest ATI drivers. 9.9. No motion blur option with this game. Is now- I guess. LOL. The trail is very very small and it's almost like a glow around the actual object as it moves. Very uncomfortable to the eyes and it's hard to look at anything in motion because it's so hazy and unclear. The FPS is very high and it still has this blurry, almost hazy feel when you look around. My x800 that it is replacing doesn't have as high FPS. But, it doesn't do this. Maybe - I need to get used to the new card? My old card is back in for now. I'm even thinking of trying out some of the Nvidia cards because my upgrades with ATI are limited now. Was looking at an x1900 or x1800. But, have heard they are really loud. I really don't want to mess with the HD cards after this. I'm thinking about a 8800 card from Nvidia. I am just about to give up on this one. I've put alot of time in trying to figure it out and it's becomming not worth it.

thanks

How are other games other than Oblivion? Any similar problems? I read up on some Oblivion issues that sound a bit similar to yours. There was something about setting the flip queue to 0 on the ATi tray. I also read something about Streamline 3.0 for Oblivion. If I played Oblivion, I might be able to assist you more, but I'll give you what I was able to find:

It's strange that I also found a few other issues for the 3870 on Oblivion, but many aren't exactly the same problem you're having. Try that program or setting the flip queue to 0 and see what happens. I'll let you know if I find something else.

Perhaps it's the response time of your monitor....since you're getting higher frames, you draw more images when you're panning. If your frame rate was lower than the response time, then the old image should clear quick enough....but if your frame rate is faster then you can have more than one image visible at once, creating a blur effect. What is the make/model number of your monitor?

Could this possibly be ghosting ? Nothing I have had to deal with so I can't give good input on it. Check the monitors refresh rate. Will be in the control panel. Also make sure vsync is off in the cards control panel and in the games settings. ...... if it's off in both, try turning it on. It will limit the frame rate.

Well- I fixed it. I sent the card back and got a used x1800xt. It's older. But, it runs the game so so well now. Better it seems than the newer card I had. Oh well. If it works- it works.
