Hi. I have always used Google Chrome since it started. I did not like IE. I have a Windows 11 computer and set (I thought) chrome as my default browser. I tend to double click on a chrome icon on my desktop. When I drag a web page to my desktop as a link it becomes a MS Edge link. I look in default apps and see both .html and .htm are Edge. How do I change this setting?

Clicking on .html gives me the option of "Try it out" "Switch anyway". I picked change anyway and I got to pick chrome but the desktop icons remain as an edge browser shortcuts ?

Is this a none starter for me? TIA Desmond.

it seems all outlook links will open in Edge now regardless of what Default browser you chose
Same applies to Teams

Could be this
ANSWER: 'Default browser' actually mean 'default browser (except for sometimes)' and it's 100% by design. It's the MICROSOFT-EDGE protocol (not the HTTP or HTTPS protocol), which will totally ignore the user's default browser selection and open the link using Edge.

Yes, this is by design. Windows always use Edge as the default browser when you use Cortana and windows search option. Microsoft pushes us to use their very own browser and search engine.

I don't know what you mean by outlook. I do not have outlook on my office home and student. I have managed to get chrome as my default know. One thing is (UK only) I opened my supermarket tesco link which opened in edge. When I ent to my shopping order, it told me I had lots of money off vouchers and points vouchers. This seemed to be outside of tesco giving me this.

the second quote in my last post is more likely what happens. Windows only uses the browser in some cases. If you open a link from desktop it might use Edge.

do you have anything like malwarebytes you can run to scan PC, as you might have some malware on PC. That would add that sort of thing.
