Problem w/ External HDD NOT Showing Up Explorer

So, I've had a Toshiba External HDD 3.0 for a while now (I cannot for the life of me find the actual model ##), and recently it just stopped appearing in Windows Explorer.

The hard drive WILL show up in Disk Management, and shows up as "Disk 2, Unknown, Not Initialized." When I attempt to initialize it (I understand that I will lose all data w/ this approach), it tells me "Disk Not Ready".

It will not show up using Windows Explorer, or the CMD w/ Diskpart. Is there anyway I can "save" my hard drive, and re use it? I would prefer to keep my data (Considering it holds the entirety of my Steam library, and all of my music and movies. Quite foolish of me to have no backups of any of it.), but if I can't, it's entirely okay.

If it helps, I am running Windows 8.1.

Okay, first you need to prise open the plastic case on the drive. Then, safely remove the connectors and place it into your case. Screw it into a bay and plug in a power cable from your PSU and a data lead from the motherboard to the drive. If you don't have one, just google a 'SATA II cable'

Sadly, no, the drive isn't inside warranty anymore. And quite honestly, I wouldn't even know where to begin with trying it as an internal SATA.

Sorry for the lack of replies... But this worked. I'm going to go by what you said and assume that the USB casing on the drive itself was faulty or had finally gone.

But, after a half hour of prying, I got the case opened and extracted the HDD.

Thanks for the help, mate! 🙂
