Are you running on a 32-bits system ?

As said if you are running a 32 bit operating system such as windows Xp 32 bit, or any other Microsoft os that is 32 bit.
You problem is that what ever program you downloaded to install on your system is a 64 bit installer version of the program.

Go back and check if there is a 32 bit installer of the program in question and install that.
