[SOLVED] Problem with 144hz monitor

Hello!

The text on my BenQ xl2420z is blurry, and the refresh rate stays below 144hz.
Sometimes the display only shows in 1280 x 720 - 60hz or 1024 x 768 - 120hz.

If I

• 
  Restart my pc
  Change different settings
  Reinstall drivers
  Replug the displayport cable

it sometimes goes back to normal (1920 x 1080 144hz)

Using windows 10 with a Acer GN246HL (144hz) connected with a DVI cable.
GPU: MSI GTX 1070 Founders Edition

I got my monitor working after doing this:

• resetting monitor settings on the monitor itself
• removing the power chord for 30 seconds
