Problem with 2560x1080 Resolution

Hey guys!

So I recently got an ultra wide LG monitor (25UM57) having it linked into a nvidia 970 graphics card.

When I have the ultra wide plugged into the card via HDMI it's as it should be, beautiful and crisp. Except, I want to plug my gaming monitor into the HDMI.

My card also has several display ports (and DVI hooked up to an old monitor).. when the monitor is plugged in the display port the max res is 1920x1080. I fiddled with the settings in my nvidia graphics card and I can get it 2560x1080, except the quality is potato like.

I'm using 1 of these to convert from display port to HDMI: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0027HYK7S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'd love it if my display could look the same as it does when it's plugged in via HDMI, is this achievable? If so, how?

I've just gone and ordered a 2nd ultra wide monitor so I'll have 3 monitors which would be massively useful for my workspace.

If you have any further questions, please do ask!

Cheers guys,
Wizz

Wait... so you want them both plugged in at the same time but one to be running a different resolution than the other?

Update: [strike]So if I understand this correctly you want both (or soon all three) monitors plugged in at the same time however running different resolutions. I believe that's your problem. While it may be possible to force the card to run a different resolution per monitor it does it poorly.[/strike]

Different resolutions

I have a graphics card that has two outputs and I'm able to set those different outputs to different resolutions if I want to. Windows 7 in particular handles this very, very well.

The right thing to do is to right-click on the Desktop, an empty area on the Desktop;
And go to Screen Resolution.
There...

There, you will be able to see Windows' concept of how your monitors are set up. It will actually show you a graphical representation of two monitor images next to each other.

If you click on one, you can then change the resolution on that monitor.
If you click on the other, you can change the resolution on that monitor.
Presumably, the graphics card is exposing the full capabilities of each of the two different connections and Windows will allow you to select the most appropriate resolution for that specific monitor - independent of what the resolution is on the other monitor.

Thanks for the reply,

Firstly, I totally get how to change the resolution etc and switch between monitors. My issue is, the display port > hdmi adapter > hdmi cable > monitor isn't allowing the resolution to be 2560 x 1080. I'm wondering does my graphics card display ports support 2560 x 1080 and if they do, is it the adapter giving me the issue?

Thanks again for your help!

Your graphics card definitely supports 2560x1080. I'm running the same monitor you have with two GTX 970s in SLI. However I haven't tried running two different resolutions.
