Problem with a Ultra160 Drive

I just bought a new MSI K7T Master and I got a
Quantum AtlasIV off Ebay and for some reason when I go
to Load Win98 it gives me an error and says
Windows ran into a error trying to read/write
to your hard drive. Does anyone know what this could mean?
Does this mean the drive is bad or are my configurations
wrong or do I need to setup another drive off IDE and try
to format the Ultra160 Drive from Windows loaded on IDE?
Or do I need to take off the Single Ended jumper from the drive?
Not quite sure what to do since this is my first time
messing with Ultra160 drives. I've had SCSI drives in the
past but mainly SCSI-2 stuff.
Any suggestions,
I've low level formatted the drive and tested it for media
defects both didn't indicate an error. And I'm pretty
sure you can set a Ultra160 drive to be bootable or am I
wrong?

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

What's your SCSI card? Do you have the Adaptec win9x drivers loaded for Ultra160? I believe you'll need these to get the disk out of MS-dos compatibiltiy mode. IIRC Win98 doesn't include Adaptec's drivers for the latest Ultra160 chips.

it has a built in controller which should enable me to load
windows and boot from it but no avail. I d/l the latest
drivers but do I need some software to partition the drive?
I know on the older adpatec stuff they had that
SCSI 4.0 thing that would partition the drive for you
and recognize it's hooked up.

Try this, use Fdisk and delete all of the partitions on the drive then setup one 4Gig partition as the primary and set it active. Exit and reboot. Run format on the disk and then scandisk and see if that works. All this is assuming that you have the SCSI bus terminated at both ends properly and the cable is good.

Tried that already, it keeps giving me an error
that says windows had a problem reading/writing to your
drive. I've tried fdisk,a boot,disk,booting setup
from CDrom, plus my Cable is new and so is the terminator.
I have the ID set at 0,and I've even tried to do SE
but nothing is working.I got it to work with windows
on my other drive partitioned it with the Adaptec
SCSI software worked but I can't get fdisk to work
keeps getting me the unable to write error.
I dont have write protection enabled, so
it's difficult to assertain what the heck is going on.
I really want to make this drive bootable with my
Os on it.
