Problem with Aopen 12/10/32

I have recently acquired an Aopen 12/10/32 IDE cd writer, and every time I try to burn anything with the bundled Nero 5, i get "Medium Speed Error". System is Athlon1.4G, FIC MB with VIA chipset, and I have already checked aspi drivers with aspichk.exe(they're correct - I fixed 'em with aspi_me) and I have also installed Nero's aspi drivers from their website, and I know I'm using compatable cdr's (16x certified, multiple brands tried) and I still get the "Medium speed error" - it comes at 13-14% of burn completed, even after the simulation runs fine. Can anyone help me out?
