Problem with Asus Z97-AR??

I recently built my own gaming computer using:
i5-4690k
Asus Z97-AR
MSI GTX 770 2GB

However, while my sound is working with my earphones plugged in, my mic is not.
Is there something wrong with my system?
What should I do to fix this?

Are you trying to run them both on one port or are you using the mic port and audio port?

What I did was plug in my headset which has both headphone and mic together.
So I guess I'm trying to run them both on one port

That's only for phones that requires what's called a 4 pole 3.55mm audio port which computers only use 3. You will need an actual gaming headset. There is nothing wrong with motherboard

Ah I see. It always worked for my laptop so I assumed that it was going to work on my desktop as well.
