I just got a new computer a few days ago, everything seems to work fine but I am having a problem playing CS source online. Every time I jump into a server, after about 5 seconds the game will freeze. The clock will continue to run, I can still hear people talking but nothing is happening on the screen. I get to pick whether i'm CT or T, everything runs just fine then suddenly just stops no matter what server I jump into. I created my own game with just bots and game worked fine, so it's only the multiplayer. It's not steam since I can play Red orchestra online with no problems whatsoever. I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit edition for my OS, anybody know how to fix this problem?

BAD: 31:svc_bad
Host_Error: CL_ParseServerMessage: Illegible server message - svc_b

This is a message I get with CS 1.6, pretty much the same thing that happens with source except it goes to main menu. Anybody help? Very frustrating to not be able to play this game online

do you know how to get console into cs:s? does it say a thing there? or can't you go in main menu while the game is stuck?

did you reinstall game with old- folders of your old pc?

or did you just download it from steam.

Firewall maybe, sounds stupid, but L4D demo crashed everytime I ran it until i turned off zonealarm, then it was fine.

Have a look in the console. If you don't know how to access it, you have to enable it in the options, think its under keyboard setting => advanced. Then it's the ` key, at least mine is.

Post on the Steam forums. If nothing works, try reinstalling CSS - it's worth a shot.
