it did a system restart where i was shown "Repairing C drive" .
After it restared, i was greeted with an error titled:
Run DLL
There was a problem starting:C:\WINDOWS\System32\WerConCpl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\WerConCpl.dll is not a valid Win32 applications.

i received many such errors. Many application dont work now!
It completely RUINED my Laptop. Can someone Please give me a solution?
do i have to completely format my laptop?? will that work?

My Laptop: Lenovo Y50-70.

Just unplug the other drives and then install, no way for errors to happen if nothing is plugged in. And yes, it will resolve the issue, but you need to quarantine the files on the other disks until you can run multiple virus checks.
Did you download a "free version" or the one from free.avg.com? If it wasn't from avg, it was filled with malware. If you did get the software from AVG directly, you can thank malware makers and kapersky for submitting false definitions.

You can recover the computer using a recovery media/installer media or perhaps the command prompt only safe mode. If safe mode works, use sfc /scannow to see what happened to the install and recover if the damage isn't too bad. If the system is far gone though, you'll need to use dsim (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947821) or a repair install (from the recovery media).

If you don't have a recovery medium, you can follow the instructions at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

I did download from the official site. its only a trial version.
i tried running sfc /scannow from command prompt but it shows up the same error and it stops responding..
Even the DISM gives the same error that its not a valid win32 application. i guess i have to try using a recovery media now.

Not command prompt, safe mode with command prompt (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode)

Thanks a lot for your reply,

Tried as advised with Safe mode with command prompt , but gives the same error.
I tried to create a recovery drive but it doesn't let me, I get the error saying:
" Windows Recovery- Bad Image
C:\WINDOWS\system32\VERSION.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation medium
Error Status 0xc000012f "

Also, is there a way to reinstall Windows without deleting my files stored in other drives?
And if yes, will that resolve this issue?

The problem seems a lot more serious! nothing is working, now cannot even boot to safe mode, cannot open update and recovery, I am not even able to find a way to reinstall windows! everything crashes. Is there any solution for this??
Everthing gives the same error of VERSION.dll
