"Problem" with G.Skill Ripjaws 1866Mhz showing only at 1600Mhz in Bios.

CPU: AMD3+ FX 6300 (OC at 3.9)
MOBO: Gygabyte GA-970A-DS3P 2.0
RAM: 16GBs Ripjaws 1866Mhz

RAM Memory showing in Bios at 1600Mhz instead of 1866Mhz.
If i put it at 1866Mhz from profiles it won't boot. Failure, etc.
Why is that?

Yes, NB Core is the one. You can try ranges between +0.1V to +0.2V to see if the system responds. If not, the motherboard may not be capable.

Yes, 2 modules has a slight advantage, but I wouldn't say it's the best thing to do. Using what you have and setting DDR3-1600 with lower timings would be just as good without having to buy new RAM.

Thanks for your time.
Its rated speed, (by default from factory) is 1866Mhz.
But in Bios its only showing at 1600Mhz.
If i do change from 1600Mhz to 1866 in Bios, from X.M.P profiles, it won't boot.

CPU its already OC from 3.5 to 3.9Ghz.
I tried to set CPU by default, without OC, and change memory from 1600 to 1866 just to test it and it won't boot.

So what's next?

no , its 1866 memory but its default speed is 1600 all memory defaults to like a fail safe value to insure safe first time booting

don't feel bad my asus AM3+ did not take any memory stable and then only one stick at 1600 anything more then that in any way = fail

you maybe down to manually ocing the memory to the best stable you can and not reach 1866 at all or just run it at 1600 [you will not tell the difference in anything between the 2 ]

So should i set up all manually, even to OC if needed?

all you can do is what you can I been looking at any help on this . my little joke saying is ''if its AMD its 1333 ''

you see how easy it can be just that some AMD can be finicky and you have to work the bios

Funny thing is now original latencies are gone, now it's 11-11-11-28, i had to manually put on 9-10-9-28
This system is driving me nuts.

Ok, so what i'm seeing right now off the bat is the memory you purchased is 1.5 volts. I'm looking at your Qualified vendor memory list for your motherboard. I specifically looked up a set of G.Skill 1866mhz on that sheet and it is specced out at 1.65 volts.

I'd suggest returning that set and to purchase an equivalent 16gb set, that runs at 1.65v.

I'm not much into RAM.
What's the problem if these memories are 1.5V?
My old ones were 1.5 too and worked fine, only the old ones were 1333Mhz 2GBx4slots.

That board might need higher voltage to sustain higher frequencies.

but I agree it don't work so well if at all and manual settings are preferred up to the most stable speed and timings you can achieve could be as crazy as 1735@9-10-10 - 9 ??

thing is I built amd solid and it was AM3+ moved me over to intel for my first time ever 3 AM3+ builds and never happy or satisfied with any of them , heck my old 939 and am2 did better and ran stable still to this day AM3+ all in junk box

XMP may be able to work, you need to boost CPU-NB Voltage slightly +0.1V to help the memory controller stabilize 4 modules. FX CPU limitation is 1866 one DIMM per channel (2 sticks), so it may be overloaded and need some help with 4.

Hopefully that 970 motherboard can support it, but I think only UD3P model can. You may have to settle with 1600 if nothing works

I will try to do what you said about boosting CPU-NorthBridge slightly up.

Looking into my BIOS, is this NB Core? (I'm not used to NorthBridge stuff) Should i set it at 0.100V, right?

In the meanwhile, i would like to know, if this could be easily "fixable" changing the 4x4GBs kit modules for other 2x8GBs same clock, etc? Is that possible?

well I all ways been told 2x8GB is less stress on the MC (memory controller) and can be ever so slightly better performance wise , but cant prove it

one of my AM3+ builds [asus] would not take any kit of 8gb sticks [@1600] with a 8350 or 6100 cpu ?? memory kits that failed in that worked excellent in a intel build just set the xmp and run stable .. it was a headache to make that run stable with anything cpu or memory .

my buddy put 4x8 1866 in his giga 990fx with a 8150 and worked fine but at loose timings kinda like I showed above [1735@9-10-10 - 9] that was all hen could squeeze out of them stable.

that when we started saying as a joke ''if its AMD its 1333 '' that was one platform I ever had so much headaches and cost me more money trying parts to make them satisfactory . cut my losses and jumped to intel thing is we talked about how our old AMD builds we never had issues just build them up set the bios and run the heck out of them . AM3+ =nope

may just come down to having to underclock from 1866 to the best you can get and be 24/7 stable may even be stuck running at that default 1600 as best it can do ??

like here seems 2 sticks of 1866 worked fine but 4 failed ??

I just tried +0.100V and still Boot Failure.
Let's see if will work with +0.200V then.
