I just finished building my pc when i tried installing windows 8.1 from a usb and it got stuck on the getting ready screen, i've used the same usb to install windows 8.1 before and never had an issue. I tried with ubuntu and it gets stuck as well. I have and msi 970A-G43 mobo, an msi radeon r9 280 graphics card, an AMD FX 6300 processor 16 gb g skills ram, powered by a corsair CX600M power supply. I have it connected to a monitor through HDMI I also have a usb keyboard and usb mouse hooked up to it And a 1 tb WD blue HDD. What could be going wrong? So far i've changed the sata setting from ide to AHCI. And installed another HDD with windows vista installed and it runs the os fine except that i have no use of the keyboard and mouse probably the lack of drivers. but if i try to install ubuntu on this drive it freezes as well.

If two operating systems freeze when you try and install them on a drive then you'd have to suspect the drive its self .
Especially if you also tried to install Ubuntu via USB

Be careful with the G43 motherboard . They can burn out or catch fire if you overclock toomuch

I went out and bought a new HDD and it also froze i also changed the sata port it was connected to and nothing.

I should add that the cpu shows temperature of 60-65 C while on the bios. Is that too high? The cpu core voltage is 1.2 V and im pretty sure it's installed correctly

Set the BIOS to optimized defaults for now

connect only one hard drive and make sure it is connected to the lowest numbered SATA port . Usually that will be 0

If you have an optical drive then burn yourself a disk of Ubuntu [ following their instructions ] and try and install that

It didnt work i literally tried every sata port on the board, and the dvd gets stuck as well. What hardware could cause an issue like this? I still have warranty on everything

I would replace the motherboard . Its not a good board .

It could also be the processor but that seems less likely .

Something else worth trying would be to remove all but one stick of RAM . Check in BIOS it is correctly recognized . Try the install . On SATA port 0 .
And if that fails then get yourself an
asrock 970 extreme3 .
Not as cheap but definitely an improvement

Newegg has it out of stock they do have the asrock 970 extreme4 and it's only 15$ more than the msi one with the mail in rebate. Im definetely going to get it as long as all the conponents are compatible i'll update when i recieve it. Thanks
