Hey guys, I have recently purchased a Kingston Hyperx predator 240 GB PCIe SSD and plugged it into a sabertooth 990fx motherboard. The problem arises when I try to run Windows 8.1 or 10 on it, the OS keeps freezing randomly (more frequently in 10 than in 8.1)

I have resorted to using Windows 8 and it runs flawlessly. I have checked the ahci setting in bios and have even tried to replace the motherboard to no avail.

I have also tried to update the ahci drivers from the asus website and even then I get freezes.

When the freeze occurs, I can't use any of my peripherals and the speakers make a high pitched continuous sound, regardless of how long I leave it be. The only means to restore the desktop to functionality is to hit the rest button.

I'd appreciate if someone could help me with this.

Hi,

Ok. I hear You.

First of all:
I must ask You something: Did you have all the SATA/HDD:s plugged in during Windows installation?
If Yes, then unplug everything, just keep the main Sata SSD in any Sata-port.

Restart > and re-install Windows > restart the computer > run Windows update
Start >Settings > Update and Security > Windows update
Restart
Then You put in the DVD with all the drivers from the manufacturer and install > restart.
Afrter this you should be able to Shutdown, unplug the power cord from the power outlet > attach and connect the remaining SSD and HDDS. Restart the computer.

Always have only one disk connected during Windows installation.
Best regards, from Sweden

Second: restart the computer.

I dont remember if I have ever done this before, but I surely will try and post an update.

Although, you mentioned sata ssd, will this work with a PCIe SSD too??

OK, so I did the thing-a-majig you mentioned and so far no troubles. But since you mentioned that it wouldn't work I am a little apprehensive now. Can you suggest something else while I am testing the previous method out??

Another thing, I have noticed that I am getting these messages at the top left of my screen when I boot at the splash screen (some mentions of success, cant read much cause the monitor HDMI data blocks the view) which never actually happened previously. Maybe this'll help you diagnose my comp

Hi,

No problem att all. It seems to me that it is just a normal "check? Everything Ok. Check. type of thing during upstart.

Nothing to be worried bout.
Best regards from Sweden :)

Well, that is a little reassuring. But I am still getting freezes with Windows 10, its not too frequent now (about 15 mins apart) but thats how it steadily progresses to freezing the instant the comp boots up

UPDATE - As expected, the freezes got too intense to handle so I have switched back to Windows 8 and I have been working away happily like a kid with a new toy. I'd still appreciate a solution to this problem though
