I am new to computers and bought and assessmbled the parts. Everything seems to work except for the connection to monitors. I have read that it could be the graphics card not working. I have a brand new Gigabyte geforce gtx 1050 with 2GB and 1 fan, and a MSI tomahawk b350 motherboard. Are there any other reasons it may not work

Solution

Then plug your display connection to your mobo and use your apu first.
then deinstall all your display drivers with DDU and see if your 1050 gets recognized from windows in the device manager.
should be possible to use your apu for that case.
after this part just shutdown your pc and switch from mobo to gpu with your display connection.

when that doesnt work check your pci express peripheral power settings in your mainboard.

Did you plug the connection cable into your VGA ? Already seen people using a GPU but connected the cable on the Mobo :p
PSU connected to your GPU ?

I cant see a slot for a cord for the PSU to go in on the video card.
And the card doesnt have a VGA slot. Only DVI, HDMI and DP
