Question Problem with monitor speakers

Hi
My friend recently finished his first ever PC build and he is using an AOC G2590FX monitor with integrated speakers connected via HDMI to a RX 590 by msi. The problem here is that the audio isn't working. He tried the most common solutions that he found online like updating the drivers and checking if the device was enabled by default, but nothing worked. If you look in the volume mixer you can see the bar going up and down so that means that the speakers are receiving the audio signal but you cannot hear anything from the monitor speakers, but the sound works using headphones. Is there something that he can do or is this a problem of defective hardware?
Thanks

HDMI can carry both audio and video, but if audio is not working then it's your monitor fault.

To get it working, you can try some hdmi audio video splitter, but i would recommend to instead upgrade to a better monitor.

3.5 mm headphones will work.

They have nothing to do with the monitor.
