Problem with Mouse Cursor

I am using a standard wired Dell computer Mouse with my Asus Laptop. Everything was working fine for a while, but now every once in a while my mouse cursor will just freeze. The mouse is still plugged in and the lights are on. Left and right click still work, but the cursor wont move on my screen. If I unplug and replug the mouse it will temporally fix the problem. But it keeps happening over and over. Sometimes the cursor will freeze up every minute or so to every half hour. this has been only happening for a few days now. I am not too computer savvy, and I don't know of any solutions to my problem. But I am pretty good at following directions, and could use some help.

I'm going to assume it's a laser mouse, and that the laser is probably dying.
