Problem with my CD drive being recognized by the PC

I reinstalled Windows 7 initializing all the hard drives to fix the constant crashes, and it seems to have worked. The bad news is that the computer does not seem to recognize one of my CD drive. By that I mean, if you click on computer it will show one of my CD drives under devices and removable storage, but not the other CD drive. If I put a CD in, the drive will spin up but nothing happens. I tried to reinstall the drivers for the one CD drive but that was no help. How do I get the computer to see this other CD drive??
I'm running Window 7. Should I re-install Windows 7 again?

First, check the device manager to see if your second cd drive is being detected at all. Then try installing the latest version of your chipset drivers. If that doesn't help, remove the cd drive from there and try it another pc (preferably running Windows 7, but if not, that's fine).

Strange, I found it in the Device Manager, but under Disks Drives and not under DVD/CD-rom. I uninstalled it and re-installed it but its still in the wrong spot. It's a TSST corp DVD/RW SCSI Disk Device. My other CD player that is in the correct place reads as TTS corp DVDR/RW TS-T632L SCSI CdRom Device. I went to EVGA web site and have the latest chip set installed. hmmm, it was working fine before I re-installed Windows 7.

Avoid eVGA for chipset driver updates. Always go directly to Intel for them when using an Intel chipset. Here is the download page for the latest version of the chipset drivers for the X58 platform: Intel INF Update Utility

Ok I installed the drivers from Intel INF Update Utility. It said the divers were older but I installed them anyway. Still no change, still seeing the CD player as a disk drive. Tomorrow, I'll dig inside the PC. Maybe it's a loose wire. I'll switch the two CD players to make sure the other is working properly. Seems strange though that it should read it as a disk drive. Maybe it's where I pluged it in on the motherboard?

Why 6 gigs with you 32 bits OS? ..3 would have been a smarter choice..

I was going to go with 64 bit OS but the first time I tried to install it got stuck and kept rebooting, the 2nd time it just froze so I installed the 32 bit. Is there any reason the 64 bit should not work on my system??
