Problem with my hard disk

Hello,
Currently i have an ssd and a hard disk in my PC. Whenever i try for example copying and pasting from my hard disk to my ssd, the progress stops for a few minutes to a few hours (it becomes unresponsive). I tried checking the hard disk (using chkdsk /f) for bad sectors but it did not have any. Basically whenever i try to do something on that drive it works for a few seconds then it 'stalls' for an amount of time. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Welcome to the TH community, @unfinishedsentenc!

I'd strongly recommend you backup your data from the HDD somewhere else as soon as possible before proceeding with the troubleshooting. Afterwards, try connecting the hard drive using a different SATA cable and also check how it will perform from another SATA Port on the motherboard. If you have access to another PC, it might also be a good idea to plug the drive there. I'd definitely not use chkdsk before checking the health and SMART status using your HDD manufacturer's brand-specific diagnostic utility.

Hope it helps. Keep me posted with the troubleshooting!

Thanks for your reply, currently i don`t have another pc to test it but as you said i tested it with another sata port and it performed the same. And yes the data backup took ages even though it wasn`t that much. Will do some tests with the diagnostic utilities that you recomended.
