problem with new asus strix gtx 1080 please help me

hello i been trying to help my friend with his new asus strix gtx 1080 graphics card. he plugged everything well even the power cables and when he turns the pc on the screen shows nothing just a no signal. however when he uses his old gtx 960 the pc works but soemtimes he is getting black screens that takes 6 seconds to work back. what could be the problem could it be doa?
