[SOLVED] Problem with older 144hz monitor

Hello, I have a 144hz monitor that I’ve been having some trouble with.
Essentially, it is supposed to support DisplayPort 1.2. I tried to run 144hz with a 1.4 cable and I got a bunch of weird lines on the bottom half of the monitor. However, if I run 120hz on HDMI it works fine. Do I just need a DisplayPort 1.2 cable or is it the monitor/graphics card problem? Card is an EVGA 1050ti sc, monitor is a curved MSI one

That sounds more like a monitor issue the cables are all essentially the same sometimes the wires may be thicker for instance I run 4K 60 on a HDMI 1.2 cable and it works just fine no frame drops
