Earlier today I was playing Skyrim, I had a mod that recreated LOTR battles, there was about 20 or more NPCs fighting. Out of nowhere, my screen goes black and the sound loops making me need to restart my PC.

The CPU and GPU temps idle about 50-64 degrees and RAM usage is somewhere like 4000-5000MB. Someone said my PSU might be the source of hardware problems but I really have no idea and Im hoping someone could help me. I'll link my specs below

CPU - Intel Core i7 4770k
GPU - GTX 770
MOBO - G1 Sniper 5
PSU - Strike-X 800W

As a rule of thumb stick with brand names like Seasonic, Corsair, and Antec. You would want at least 80+ bronze certified (better if you could get gold) and when you think you found the one you want look up official reviews from tech pages to make sure it got a good review. For an Intel system and Nvidia graphics 650W should be plenty, but if you opted for 750W you would always have the option of adding a second 970/980 later.

i7 4770k at stock could handle Skyrim all day long every day and not have an issue, as long as your temps are good its not your CPU. Your stats all look overkill for Skyrim so it almost has to be a software issue. You may want to run Malwarebytes just to ensure you don't have any malware or PUPs hanging about, but the issue is more than likely Skyrim settings themselves. If I'm not mistaken (been awhile since I played it or modded it) you need to alter the .ini file to allow for more npcs on screen at one and to allow more CPU threads to be used in game. Past that there are some mods that require other mods to work properly, such as Thores new idles (think its called). Then you have the issue of some mods were written for previous versions of the game and as the game was updated it no longer runs properly for the current version. I think you issue is either going to be .ini settings or the mod itself. If you can play the vanilla game without issue it is almost certainly the mod itself or .ini settings.

I forgot to include thats its not only happens with Skyrim. It sometimes even suprisingly happens with CSGO running all lowest settings and even fps limited to 60.

If you have already run Malwarebytes and it didn't fix the issue I would check to see what background apps are using resources. Launch Task Manager and see if an app is using up a lot of CPU or RAM. If you are okay there then I would make sure all your drivers for your GPU are up to date. If that isn't the issue I would either do a system restore to a date before you had this issue or do a full clean install of the OS (make sure you back up anything important first and tell it to erase everything). If you try these things and still have issues you really should replace your psu, its not of very good quality.

What PSU would you recommend me for these specs and later 970/980 ?
