[SOLVED] Problem with RAM frequency after adding two more sticks

I just added two more additional sticks of ram to my pc build, and now despite changes in BIOS the frequency will not go above 1866 mhz. Fix for this?

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x
MOBO: ASrock b450m/ac
Memory: 4 x 8Gb G Skill Trident Z RGB 3200 MHZ for AMD

I don't think any other specs are necessary but please let me know if more are needed and I will be happy to provide.

There is no guarantee that buying two kits of the same memory will work, but which model are they: F4-3200C16D-16GTZRX or F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX?

In the end the answer will most likely be to contact G.Skill support and see if they will swap the two kits for one kit of 32GB.

According to my BIOS and task manager, the memory frequency is at 1866.

Yeah, looking at G.Skill if you want 32GB in that model you need 2x16GB, there is no 4x8GB kit in that model. Like I said the best course is to contact G.Skill support by email. I've had them swap sticks for me in the past and maybe they will help you out. ustech@gskillusa.com

Even if you had bought a 4x8GB kit, your system is still going to struggle to run 4x8GB at higher than 2933 or 3000MT/s. Dual rank configurations on Ryzen 1000-3000 platforms and CPUs, will always have to run slower due to CPU memory controller and motherboard limitations, so not all CPUs and motherboard can OC the same.

If you have an XMP profile for 2933 or 3000, use that instead, otherwise you will have to manually change your speed, timings and voltage. There is a chance you won't get higher than 2666MT/s CL12-CL14 1.2-1.25v, but more likely you could get to 2800 CL14 at 1.25-1.3v

As for the 1866 max, you may need to reset all your memory settings to automatic or reset bios to defaults. ASrock does not recommend upgrading the bios to the newest versions, since that will remove support for older CPUs. I personally had to update to AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.4 Patch B on my MSI B450 board because my two 2x8GB kits were not stable on older versions.

I updated the BIOS last night and it didnt seem to change much. Im not sure how to make an XMP profile to make those changes. How could I got about manually changing speed, timings, and voltage.

Yes. F4-3200C16Q-32GTZR They also have the 2x16GB with the same coding as yours except 32 in the place of 16.

It's not so much whether it's compatible, but your motherboard "officially" supports 4x8GB in Dual Rank at 2133-2400MT/s. Interestingly, with Ryzen Picasso (Ryzen 3 3200G/3400G), your motherboard only officially supports up to 1866MT/s in Dual rank 4x configurations. Edit - I was wrong accutally I looked at the wrong table in the motherboard specs. The motherboard should support up to 2933 with single rank 8GB modules in a dual memory rank (4x8GB) configuration.

The QVL is just single kits that have been tested and known to work with the motherboard. They don't test more than one of the same kit for compatibility. G.Skill does have a 4x8GB kit in the same specs as your kits, but it still isn't likely to work at 3200 on your motherboard.

Look at THIS page -- it is Trident for AMD. They have two different 4x8GB kits that they guarantee to work.

edit: and if you check the 32 GB (2x16GB) box you will see the other model that I listed. This page is specifically for AMD processors.

It is not just G.Skill, all the major memory manufacturers have specific models tested for AMD since there are so many CPUs that run on most boards, including older boards. I see more Corsair problems actually.

You shouldn't need to change motherboard, I actually got my information wrong and edited it to reflect that. You should be able to use up to 2933MT/s with 4x8GB. Edit - Also, I don't see it making any sense buying a 4x8GB kit over a 2x16GB kit when they will both likely have the same speed limitations.

Agreed, your board is fine. You simply need to contact the email support at G.Skill and convince them to swap you to 32GB Trident RBG, whether 2 or 4 sticks, that will work on your board at 3200MHz. With some whining, I usually get them to do a lot of stuff.
