Hi everyone, this is the first time i write here so i will try to explain myself better than Ana "bottle"...
The question is that i have a rampage II extreme with an old i7 920 c0/c1 oc at 3600mhz and i can't get past this, and even now i have insane temps and vcore voltage at 1.40 .... so i had the chance to get a second hand xeon w3540 for a reasonable price, and decided to get it to oc in order to make my computer last a year and then upgrade it all. I saw a lot of people using this mobo with this xeon with no problems, but for me, when i change my i7 920 for the xeon the computer does not even boot, no sound, no beep, just powered on but nothing happens. I tried two different bios, 2101(latest) and downgraded to 2002 with no luck, even tried 2 different set of ram memmory but no changes. Am i missing something?
My computer is:
Rampage II extreme
i7 920
6gb corsair tr3x6g1600c7d
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english

If you want to get a dynamite CPU for that board and can find one it's the i7-980x. I had that same board and CPU combination and there is no better CPU on the planet then that i7-980x. Intel made something special when they made that model of processor and if you can find one , maybe Ebay or someplace like that grab it you won't be sorry and you'll quickly forget all about that Xeon.

Hi, and thanks for the help, the thing is that the i7 920 is perfectly working but when i change cpus... i even used beta bios 1403 that is supposed to give xeon support but it keeps without booting, nothing happens when xeon is mounted, im starting to resign because i dont know what to do, i followed the links you posted but if something were wrong 920 wouldnt boot neither so maybe i should return the xeon while i can and try to find another bargain, but this time staying on i7
