Everything was working fine until yesterday when I had a power cut sometime around the afternoon and a thunderstorm by the night. I don't unplug my Ethernet LAN cable (RJ45) from the port no matter what. Then after the next reboot when I was logging in, Windows said something like "Getting Devices Ready" and I noticed the unavailability of LAN icon on the tray bar so I opened Network and Sharing Center and went to Change Adapter Settings and there was no sign of my Ethernet Controller which was indeed my default controller. I checked the port LEDs the Orange LED was on and stable and the other one (I don't know what color) was not blinking. Does this mean the port was burned as soon as I booted up my system? I had used BitTorrent the morning itself. I went through some threads here explaining my problem and they came up like removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard so that the BIOS settings are reset and the motherboard is forced to check the Ethernet cable once again and hence it fixed the problem for some but not mine. I tried Loading Optimal Defaults from my UEFI BIOS but no luck. I tried installing the LAN Drivers from the CD that came along with my motherboard but nothing helped. I tried installing Realtek Ethernet Diagonostic Utility but nothing. I tried Installing Realtek Ethernet Controller (RTL8111) and I chose Repair and when it's done, the pop up says "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled, Please Plug the Cable." I don't understand, the cable is already connected to the port. I don't have a Router or a Modem, just a direct cable from my Internet Service Provider that goes straight to the port. Is there any chance of the cable getting damaged by any reason? I tried Pinging with my Default Gateway (ping 172.28.207.1 -t) but nothing.

Solution
Other than trying another cable, it sounds like your network adapter took a hit. You can pick up a network cable for 5 bucks or so, depending on where you are and if that doesnt work, then I would go with an add on network card with an intel chipset. Its likely better than the one in your board now.

If you're like me, you may not be able to add another card due to a full system of video cards and/or sound card. If thats the case, you can check to see if youre motherboard is still under warranty and contact Gigabyte to start the RMA process.

The warranty wont cover lightening strikes so you may need to decide if you want to be fully truthful and add in an add-on network card or take the dark trail and request the RMA. =D

I hope...
