Question Problem with scannow

I'm having an issue scanning my HDD using scannow via the command prompt. Every time it gets to 70%, it just stops and says 'windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation'. I've tried booting Windows in Safe Mode and running it, but it still comes up with it. :-\ I've tried running chkdsk /r and says it'll run on restart, but when I restart, it says something about pressing a key to cancel - it doesn't display long enough to read - and then just boots to Windows. It doesn't seem to even run the check.

Is your OS files are installed on that HDD?

I only see ssd? Try running samsung magician on the ssd and try running benchmarks with it and check the SMART scores (it shows on the Drive details page) - https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/magician/

I should point out that's the spec of my desktop. The issue I'm having is with my laptop. I'm not quite sure what make the SSD is for my C drive. All I know is that it's an M.2.

what brand laptop? I might be able to figure out what brand drives they have or you can run any this and run any tests you can in the disk tab - https://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_sentinel_trial.php

It's an MSI laptop. Specifically, the GP62MVR. Thanks for the link; I'll give it a try when I have a moment.

I can't tell what m.2 they use, all i can see is its a combo slot - Because it is a "combo" slot, it will work with either an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD or an M.2 SATA SSD. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=289610.0

So I assume HD Sentinal will show what you have at very least.

Okay, I got round to running a scan. I have a Samsung MZNLN128HAHQ-00000 (C) and a Samsung 860 EVO (D). Both drives are healthy and are sitting around 96+%.

if sfc still won't finish, try this command and afterwards run SFC again
right click start button
choose powershell (admin)
copy/paste this command into window:
Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth and press enter
SFC fixes system files, second command cleans image files - the files that SFC uses to check your PC so re run SFC and restart PC if it actually finishes.

Yeah, I tried that too. No dice. :-\ In the end, I just had to reformat the hard drive. Thanks for the help and suggestions though.
