for the past couple of months, for no particular reason i can think of, about 30 seconds after my pc has booted i get a message coming up saying "The target "" of this Internet Shortcut is not valid. Go to the Internet Shortcut property sheet and make sure the target is correct."

how do i find the shortcut that is trying to open at startup?

You can look at event viewer and see if you can find the error in there, helps to do this just after start up so you don't have to look through too many messages to find right one. Don't worry too much about the other errors, a perfect system still gets errors in event viewer. Just find the one you curious about and paste what it says in here

open event viewer (search cortana for it)
click custom views?admin tasks and make program bigger so you can read the middle column

You could look at the start up tab on task manager and disable any you don't use/recognise. Google any unknown names before actioning them.

Thanks for that, I had already looked at event viewer just wasn't sure how to filter it to find the problem. Issue turned out to be 2 rogue shortcuts in the startup folder(which by the way takes some finding on Windows 10) that had been created during a failed Java update.
Thanks for the help! :)
