Problem with system turning off.

After posting a thread a few weeks back about a problem with my monitor's display going out only during playing games, I thought the problem was GPU related. I am now quite confused, and I am suspecting a faulty PSU. Two times today, just as I entered a game of League of Legends within ten seconds, my PC completely died. By died, I mean the system completely turned off. The display went black and my mouse and keyboard turned off. Usually when this happens, the system boots back up with no problem, but as I posted in a thread a couple weeks back, sometimes only the display goes out. When only the display goes out, but the system is still running, my sound also goes out. The fans are still running on my heatsink and system fans, and in fact, my gpu fans are also still running but at a much slower speed than I have it set to. I should also note that when the second problem ( the one with only the display going out) happens, I must force shutdown by means of using the system power button on my PC. When I try booting up, it can take anywhere from 1-7 attempts to get it too boot up properly. Occasionally, the system boots up without the display, and I can hear the windows start up sound. And other times my keyboard will light up, but my mouse won't. Other times my fans will turn on, and my keyboard and mouse will not. This is one of the main reasons I suspect a PSU failure. My intuition tells me that this was caused by a lightning strike a month and a half back because it has been occurring since then, but again this is just speculation. As a final note, I should say that my max temps on my GPU, according to MSI afterburner, show a max temp in-game at around 65C with fan speeds at 70%. My CPU, and I am kind of curious about this, shows a max temp spike of 66C but an average of around 56-60C. I am not sure what the safe temp is for the i5-4690k, so that would be helpful to know. And if this is not a safe temp, would this be causing the system failure I am experiencing? Any help is appreciated. Thank y

Solution

I took my entire PC apart last night and rebuilt it to make sure there weren't any burn marks or loose connections. I also did the paper clip test on my PSU, and it passed it. Currently, I am running my system with the onboard graphics from my i5 4690k. So far there seem to be no problems, but I am going to give this method a few days. If the system doesn't fail on me in the next 5 days, I will bring my GPU back. After testing the GPU scenario, if it fails, I would suspect it is either too much voltage being taken from my GPU or possibly the GPU is failing (But I don't know why this would be the case if the entire system is turning off). How do I monitor my voltage to make sure?

That's the right thing you did..give it a try and test for few days and monitor how things go
Don't know about GPU voltage monitor tool or something..you can google it or try EVGA Precision X
also try using different PCIe slot (if available)
