problem with windows 8.1 update

so straight to the problem i got windows 8.1 genuine legal activated copy but it never searched for update and never installed any and when i search for update it keeps searching for hours and sometimes and error (update check failed) what should i do? and i also tried removing the antivirus and searching nothing happened!

Probably an empty cmos battery on the old mobo that resets the clock with every shut-down?

A very good possibility. After setting the time and date on the BIOS, completely shut down the pc and then restart it. Go back to the BIOS and check the date and time. If it is not right, replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard.

i just reinstalled the windows everything works fine now except the audio which i will post a new question
