Hi,

I have been having problems with my PC freezing on me and making a humming sound. I decided to change my PSU and I upgraded it slightly from 500W to 600W. It didn't work. I then tried to change my air cooler for my CPU. I'm afraid I can't remember the exact name of my motherboard but I know it's a AM3+. I cant switch on my PC to get info for reasons I don't want to get into right now (but will become apparent a bit later). I bought this cooler for my PC the ARCTIC Freezer 7 X - Compact Multi-Compatible CPU Cooler, PC https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B084G7L22K?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details According to Amazon it's compatible with AM3+ motherboards, I don't see how. It became immediately apparent that the brackets were to wide and it's not possible to fit it. If you actually look at the box for the Freezer 7X it says AM4 and AM5, it does not say AM3+. Am I right that it's not compatible, or am I missing something? I will post a couple of pictures of my motherboard were the CPU cooler was. The name of my previous cooler is 1A02C3W00 https://www.amazon.com/AMD-1A02C3W00-Socket-Aluminum-Connector/dp/B008Z4S898

Here a link which shows a couple of pics inside my PC, hope it works and helps.

At this point I'm not even sure if changing my CPU fan will stop the freezing but I have another pressing concern. While I was trying to change the CPU fans, I dropped 2 screw from the top bracket of my CPU cooler. I can't find them. The screws are about 10mm in length. I guess I'm going to have to go to Amazon and get myself some PC screws, but is there anything else I'm going to need to know? I've noticed some of the PC screws have names I'm not familar with. Will just getting a box of PC screws solve the situation or is there anything else I need to know? As it stands now I cannot switch on my other PC until I replace those screws. Another thing I noticed when I unscrewed the CPU cooler, and then tried to screw the screws in place again, for some reason they wouldn't tighten, whats the deal?

At any rate, I'm probably going to send the Arctic Freezer cooler back and possibly replace it with a brand new version of the old cooler. I might want to upgrade it to something slightly better but I don't want to buy another fan that doesn't fit. Well what do you guys think? Do you know of any decent CPU coolers that will fit a AM3+ motherboard? Like I said not even sure if changing the CPU cooler is going to stop my PC from freezing, but if i don't get another CPU cooler, I think it's a really bad idea to switch on the PC.

EDIT: I have just found the name of my motherboard and it's a GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3. According to the questions made on Amazon it won't fit. It seems it not just about things like AM3+ and things of that nature but the make as well. Still would like to know what you guys think.

the pegs go on the retention mechanism on the motherboard.

As for your specs, please list them like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

If you'd like to narrow down what the source of your freezes are.

Ok I think I've figured how to fit the cooler but now I have to replace those screws, LOL.
CPU: AMD fx 6300
CPU cooler: 1A02C3W00
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3.
RAM: Patriot PV316G186C0K 16GB Viper Series 3
SSD/HDD: Integral V Series 1TB SATA III/ HDD is Seagate but I can't remember how much it had
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 1060 6GB
PSU: Aerocool Integrator 600W
Chassis: Sorry don't know
OS: Windows 10
Monitor: HP 2211 Series LED Backlit LCD Monitor
BIOS Version/Date: Award Software International INC F2,25/11/2014

By the way I thought about updating the BIOS but I went to the website and it's exactly the same as my BIOS, so I didn't think it was neccessary.

Well, thanks for the help guys. But at any rate, I seemed to have fixed the problem. I couldn't fix the other CPU cooler it seemed it was too big. I've bought another one and fixed it to my CPU. So far it seems to have worked.
