I was hoping to find an answer to my question somewhere here on the board already but I haven't seen any similar posts.
Okay here are the details: Bought a Visiontek Geforce4 Ti 4200. Decided it was time to reformat the HD and get a fresh start. The card works just fine. The re-installed the OS isn't the problem either. Here is the issue. After powering down the system for an extended period of time (in this case 4 hours) and attempting to reboot the machine hangs? It worked perfectly the 3+ hours I spent re-installing the OS/Chipset drivers/HD controllers etc... So I wake up this morning and go to boot up the machine to install a few games and the damn thing beeps at me and hangs,(after it was working perfectly 4 hours previous). I cleard the CMOS on the mobo and tried booting again (same hang). At that point I powered down the system reseated the Geforce just to be sure it was in there right crossed my fingers and power the machine back up. It worked!?
Could it be that my power supply isn't getting the card enough juice?
Its a DEER 300-Watt power supply but I dont think its a reputable company. I know that if the card is not getting enough voltage from the mobo it can prevent the machine from booting. Before I go out and buy a new power supply I thought I would consult with the board. I'll include my machine specs just to be sure

Mobo- Abit KT7A-RAID BIOS revision 3N VIA4n1 4.29
Proc- Athlon T-Bird @ 1.4
HD- WD 30 Gig 7200 RPM
VC- Geforce4 Ti 4200 128MB
512MB Corsair RAM

Very possible that it's your PSU. Take a look at the sticker on your PSU and tell me what the numbers are. There should be some sort of table. It should say something like +5V - 28A, +12V - 16A, +3.3V - 20A. That basically tells the ability of the PSU. If it's a generic basically, it could have bad "rail" output. That could be what's causing the problems. the 1.4GHz t-bird sucks power and as does a GF4.

Sadly I wont be home until later this evening! I decide to bite the bullet and get the new PSU anyway. I will return to the board to let you all know what the outcome is.

Hopefully that's the problem. I wouldn't want to think that I made you buy a PSU and waste your money if that's not the problem.
