Problems connecting desktop to HDTV

My hdtv has 3 HDMI ports. One is specifically UHD Color. When I connect my desktop to that port using my gtx 1080, it says no signal. I can connect to the other hdmi ports no problem (same cable). I can also connect my blueray and laptop to the UHD Color port. The main problem is when i plug the hdmi into my desktop the default is to extend the display. So I cannot look at the nvidia settings for the tv on my monitor while plugged in to the tv. My theory is that nvidia control panel is blocking it somehow. When restarting the computer and having it only plugged into the tv I can see the bios screen, but then once windows boots up it goes back to no signal. Any ideas? I was trying to google resetting windows display options to default hoping it would let me duplicate the screen but no luck on finding anything solid.
