I recently built my new PC, however, the mobo (DFI LANParty MI p55-t36 i fear, does not support booting from my external DVD drive. I have tried all of the usb ports, and when i look in boot preferences, the drive does not show up, however my SSD and HDD do, and interestingly, a 500gb external USB storage deice shows up. So my question is that can i actually use the external DVD drive to install? And can I install it from the external 500gb storage USB, and if so how do i get the disk copy of windows seven onto the external USB drive?
Many thanks!

How do i change the boot drive to external USB? i don,t seem to get the option? Is it under boot priorities? All i can see there is the Internal drives and external drive as i mentioned, is it changed elsewhere? thank you very much, and oh that's interesting to know about the SSD and HDD, why exactly?

If it's an option, then it should be listed under boot priorities. Given that you don't have an internal optical drive, I'd be very surprised if wasn't an option. If it's listing the external drive and not a USB device, then you should have the external drive listed as first.

Disconnecting the HDD just makes it easier to make sure the OS is installed onto the SSD.

SO is it possible to move my os from th disk, to an external storage device, and then install it from that? as my pc recognises a storage device but not an external optical drive!
