I bought a (used?) Vertex3 on eBay a year or so back but as my SATA HDD was still doing OK fought shy of using it (thinking I'd wait until I'd built another system and possibly done the win 10 upgrade.
My HDD seems to have died or become corrupted (same thing I suppose) so I decided to try installing Win7 on the SSD.
Windows however has other ideas and says it can't install onto the disk partition.
Would using dban get rid of any previous formatting and allow me to load Windows?

Solution
During te install, when it asks 'where', select Custom.
You'll be presented with a list of all existing partitions.
Select each one, DELETE.
Leaving one blank space.

Install to that, letting Windows create what it needs.

Hi, Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, it appears my edition of Win7 doesn't have the correct drivers for this SSD BUT I tried your solution on the older HDD and it worked like a charm and my desktop is back up and running. Many thanks.
