I have a laptop running Windows 7, and received the "invite" to "upgrade" to Windows 10. I used CloneDisk to make a backup image of the SSD before "upgrading". I didn't like it, and after doing some experiments I decided to format the SSD and restore the backup image, and the problems began.
After restoring the image file windows doesn't boot. I've tried repairing start-up via the installation DVD but it says it cannot resolve the problem.
After restoring the disk image I only have 1 partition (called OS) on the disk, but I used to have 2 ("system reserved" + OS). This partition that exists after restoring the .img file doesn't seem to have boot/mbr information and I've tried resizing it with Gparted, but I get a message that this cannot be done because it's a "primary" partition.
I've installed windows again to recreate those partitions, but even with a "system reserved" partition with only 100MB, when I try to restore the image do the other partition I get a message saying that there is not enough space in it; so I'm pretty sure I made an image of the complete physical drive.
I had my disk about 50% full, but the .img file created is the size of the whole disk, so there must be some "stuffing" in it. Is there a way to remove some of it? Would that help?
Any other suggestions are welcome!
If you have any questions please let me know
