Problems running Counter-strike source

Okay, when I'm trying to play source there is a series of weird blocks going down about the middle of my monitor. They don't seem to mess up the gameplay, they're just really annoying and get in the way. It seems like if I have a window open, and then close it, it 'sticks' where the blocks are but otherwise closes. When I first saw this I thought 'looks like a driver/bios problem' but I re-checked 10 times over and I'm fully updated. Source works fine on my other pre-built Dell comp. The one I need it to work on is my custom one. Also, it runs advanced games like Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 perfectly so I don't think source is too much for it. Anyone have any idea what those blocks are there for? I have tried reinstalling also.

EDIT:
Here is a screenshot of my source.

System information (i.e. vid card, motherboard, cpu, etc)? Also, I would try posting in the counter-strike:source tech support forum as well unless you've already done so.

Doesn't look like an artifact problem if those blocks are always in the same place overlaying everything. Does your video card run other games without those blocks? Is it overclocked? Try turning all visual settings to low and see if you still get that problem. Maybe one of the settings your video card doesn't like.

Sorry, I really should have been more specific.

Here's my system.
AMD 64 3000+
XFX 6600GT
Gigabyte nForce 3 939 Mobo
1 gig of PC3200 Ram

I have already posted on the CS:S tech forums, just waiting for a reply. And yes, my vid card runs HL2, Doom3, the Sims 2, all without any problems. I'll try what you suggested and see what happens, thanks

Interesting, you have same specs on your system as I do with exception of motherboard (I use chaintech nforce4) and I have XFX's PCI-E version of nVidia's 6600GT. Counter-Strike:Source runs w/no probs on my machine. Do you have latest drivers from nvidia.com? I never use graphics card drivers off the disk the card was shipped with. Do those blocks appear just in game or are they present before going into CS:S (i.e. when you're selecting a server to join etc)?

I do have the latest drivers from nvidia.com. Also, the blocks only seem to appear in game. They aren't there at the start screen, server list, etc. As for the video settings, where do I change those? I looked under the nvidia display but couldn't find anything.

EDIT:
I also had a question about the drivers on the nVidia site. There are two options for Windows XP, they are Windows XP/2000 and Windows XP 64-bit edition for 64-bit Extended systems. Which one of these do I want? I'm using the Windows XP/2000 one.

Sounds like you got the right drivers. The 64-bit Windows XP drivers are for the 64-bit version of Windows XP (which I don't think is out yet). As for the video setting options, I meant the video settings in Counter-Strike:Source, not Windows... it sounds like a Counter-Strike:Source issue and not a video card issue if other games run w/o error.

Hmmm, I see. Yeah, that's what confused me. It can run Half-life 2 fine but no Source weird. I guess all I can do is mess with the video config in the game. Thanks for the help.

no problemo... I'd be curious to know what the culprit is when you uncover it. I know what's it like trying to survive w/o CS:S - may as well take away oxygen.

I got it fixed. Although, I can't say what exactly it was that did it, just for sure one of the settings. I think by playing with them I just made everything worse. So I ended up just deleting my config.cfg file and starting a new one from scratch. I'm not messing with video options anymore =P
