I upgraded my old laptop to win 10 to have a look at it, my main tower still runs win7. I have a 2TB external drive that has most of my programs and games installed, switching between both machines.
After my last use with the win 10 laptop, win 7 wont run at all as soon as i plug in the hdd. i cant open windows, it wont show up in explorer (if opened before plugging in), i cant even open task manager.
As soon as i unplug, all the windows i tried to open pop up immediately. Win 10 has no problem with the drive at all. What did that sorry excuse of an OS do to my drive and can it be fixed?

Hi there Lordhaelmchen,

As the drive is recognized by Win 10, I would advise you to just back up the data stored on the drive until you sort this out.
After that, you can test the drive with some of these and see what is wrong with it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Sometimes, failing drives could cause similar system hangs and overall unresponsiveness.
I believe you can run Disk Check as well: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/disk-error-checking-windows-8

Let me know how this goes,
