The Overclock.net forum has a thread about issues people have experienced problems with getting the new ASUS 28" 4K monitor (designated PB287Q) to run at 60Hz over the DisplayPort (i.e. black screen, line down the middle of the screen, popping noises). Unfortunately, the thread has become a battleground for Green and Red Team fanboys to pummel each other. It is hard to gauge the nature and extent of problems. It is curious that no review, no other forums seem to mention such issues (aside from referencing the Overclock.net site).

Is there a consensus here about whether this is a problems monitor or are GPUs like GTX780Ti, Titan Black, R9 290x and R9 295x2 just not very compatible with the ASUS product?

I think it's a problem with DisplayPort. Almost all the SST DP1.2 screens are having issues. A lot of them flicker, ect. If you have a Nvidia Graphics card you can try the 4k 60hz over hdmi 1.4 thing.
